Teaching children who have difficulty in understanding can be emotionally and physically tiring. But what if an animal can comfort them and teach them at the same time? But, Maggie, a dog has become successful in helping children to read. Infact, she has become an honorary member of staff at a school in the West Midlands, England.
The idea of encouraging students to read with the help of dogs to improve their literacy was first tries in United Kingdom five years ago. Recently, the school staff found Maggie’s potential in making students read their books. Maggie is a 10-year-old Shih Tzu, and now owns staff badge at Earls High school in Halesowen. The main reason for which is that a dog is nonjudgmental and provides a sense of comfort and safety, while humans can be judgmental and also criticising.
